Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Suspended From Lok Sabha for 'Unruly' Conduct
New Delhi, August 11 (TNA) Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, was late on Thursday suspended from the House due to his 'unruly' behavior. The suspension motion was presented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. During a discussion on a no-confidence motion, Chowdhury compared PM Narendra Modi to Mahabharata's blind king Dhritarashtra and also likened him to fugitive Nirav Modi.
These comments sparked strong opposition from the ruling party. Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged Chowdhury to maintain decorum, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expunged certain remarks from the record. Chowdhury responded to Amit Shah's 'Quit India' call by stating, "Quit India must happen - quit India from communalisation, polarisation, saffronisation."
He also highlighted the Manipur issue, calling for PM Modi's intervention due to the state's ongoing ethnic violence and civil unrest. Chowdhury's speech coincided with PM Modi's entrance into the Lok Sabha. The suspension underscores the tension between opposition and ruling parties in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
