Lucknow, July 18 (TNA) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hit back at former UP chief minister Akhilesh yadav for "spreading fake news" with regards to a video clip in which a cop is allegedly beating a woman.

National in-charge of BJP's Information & Technology department Amit Malviya shared the full video in which the woman (said to be the victim) is clearly shown as holding the police sub-inspector by the collar and even as he (the accused as per the opposition) is asking her to let him go.

The BJP has reprimanded the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief for accusing the police for something which it had not done.

As it turns out to be the sub-inspector had gone in the village to arrest Shivam Yadav, son of the lady being portrayed as the victim and she was obstructing the government official to do his job. She dragged, pushed and shoved the cop to prevent the arrest of her son, a police man at the scene of the scuffle told his superiors.

Malviya, in a tweet went on to say that for someone who has been the chief minister of the state, should be more caution in spreading such canards and fake news. The former CM should have checked the facts and verified the correct situation before levelling charges against the policeman, Malviya went on to add.

On Saturday the video had went viral, with opposition parties, mainly led by Akhilesh Yadav's social media team had pounced upon the incident as an opportunity ti bring disrepute to the Adityanath government in the state.
