Election Commission Issues Advisory To Rahul Gandhi, Asks Him To Be More Cautious In Comments Against PM
New Delhi, March 7 (TNA) After considering the order of the Delhi High Court in the case of remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Election Commission has issued an advisory to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Amidst the ongoing commotion regarding Lok Sabha elections, the poll panel issued this advisory asking the Wayanad MP to be more cautious in future. The Commission has issued this advisory after considering the Delhi High Court order and Rahul Gandhi's replies and other facts in the case related to statements and comments against PM Modi.
Acting on the directions of the Delhi High Court in December last year, the Commission asked Gandhi to strictly follow the recent advisory issued to star campaigners and political leaders. In an advisory issued on March 1, the commission had warned that parties, candidates and star campaigners would face strict action and not just 'moral censure' for any violation of the model code of conduct.
It also said that star campaigners and candidates who have received notices in the past will face strict action for repeatedly violating the code of conduct. The Commission had issued a notice to Gandhi last year after the Congress leader used words like 'panauti' and 'pickpocket' for the Prime Minister. The Delhi High Court on December 21 had also asked the Commission to decide on the notice issued to Gandhi for these comments, saying the Congress leader's statement during a speech given in November 2023 was distasteful.
