Fire Alarm And Protection System Mandatory In Passenger And School Buses From October 1, Notification Issued
New Delhi, May 6 (TNA) The Union Road Transport Ministry has made fire alarm and protection system mandatory for passenger and school buses from October 1 this year. This step has been taken to protect the passengers in these vehicles from the risk of fire.
The Ministry has issued a notification with regards to this, an official informed. Prior to this, such vehicles were mandated to have a fire alarm and fire prevention system in the engine cabin only.
According to the notification, it will be necessary to have this system in type three buses and school buses manufactured from October 1 and onwards.
Type three buses are those which travel long distances. The proposal regarding this notification was issued in January this year and the feedback and suggestions were sought from the concerned parties.
After considering these suggestions, the ministry has now issued a notification regarding amendments to the rules of the Central Motor Act. Studies of all bus fire incidents show that the greatest danger to passengers is from the fire and smoke in the passenger compartment.
