Ground Breaking Of New Parliament Building On December 10

New Delhi, December 5 (TNA) One of the last remnants of the British Raj will become history in 2022 as a new parliament will start functioning. Om Birla, the speaker of the Lok Sabha on Saturday informed that the ground breaking ceremony will be held on December 10 at 1 pm by prime minister Narendra Modi.

The new building, which will 17,000 square metre bigger than the existing parliament building, will be built at a cost ofRs 971 crores in 64,500 square metre area. The design of the new Parliament House has bene made by HCP Design Planning and Management Private Ltd and is being built by Tata Projects Ltd.

Birla also informed that when India celebrates 75 years of independence in 2022, both the Houses will start functioning in the new building. The Lok Sabha will have 888 seats and Rajya Sabha will have 326 plus seats. The common hall will be able to accommodate 1224 members under one roof at a given time. It will have foolproof security arrangements and would have the latest digital interface technology, which will be available to all lawmakers.
