Heavy Rains Lash Chennai, Neighbouring Areas As Cyclone Michaung Inches Closer To Tamil Nadu And Andhra Pradesh Coast

Chennai, December 4 (TNA) Normal life has been thrown out of gear in the capital of Tamil Nadu on Monday as heavy rain lashed the city through the night on Monday as Cyclone Michaung inched closer near Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the city and its neighbouring districts would experience extremely heavy rain in the next 24 hours.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed in Chennai and the NDRF teams rescued around 15 people from the Tambaram area near Peerkankaranai and Perungalathur who were stranded due to severe waterlogging after heavy rain in the city.

In view of water flowing above the danger level, bridge no.14 between Basin Bridge and Vyasarpadi has been suspended on account of safety reasons, reports suggest. Six trains that have to cross the bridge starting from Chennai - Mysuru Shatabdi Express, Coimbatore Kovai Express, Coimbatore Shatabdi Express, KSR Bengaluru AC Double Decker Express, KSR Bengaluru Brindavan Express, Tirupati Sapthagiri Express have been cancelled for Monday.
