Heavy Rains Predicted For The Next Two Days In Himachal Pradesh, Orange Alert Issued
Shimla, July 27 (TNA) A warning for very heavy rains has been issued by the IMD for many districts of Himachal Pradesh. The hill state which has been battered by the monsoons for several weeks now, is likely to get heavy rains on Thursday and Friday, prompting the weatherman to issue an ‘Orange Alert’.
Heavy rains are like to occur in Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan and Sirmaur districts during the next 48 hours. During this, incidents like cloudburst can also happen at some places. In view of this, the public has been advised to take precautions, not to go near landslide prone areas and overflowing rivers and drains.
Due to heavy rains in the state so far, there has been a record loss to both life and property. Since June 24, 45 people have lost their lives due to flash floods and landslides. 42 people have died during the heavy rains between July 7 and 11.
Private and government property worth Rs 5361 crore has been damaged in the state. In the state, 669 houses have been completely destroyed, while 5491 houses have been partially damaged. 236 shops, 1668 gaushalas and 101 labor sheds and bridges have been destroyed. Thousands of people have become homeless due to this. Schools will remain closed for the enxt two days, a government official informed.
