MEA Issues Advisory For Indian Nationals And Indian Students In Canada
New Delhi, Sep 20 (TNA) In view of the “growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence” in Canada, the Indian government has urged “all Indian nationals there and those contemplating travel” to “exercise utmost caution”. In a statement, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Wednesday said that recently that there have been threats which have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who opoose the anti-India agenda.
Indian nationals are therefore advised to avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents, the advisory of MEA further added. “Our high commission/consulates general will continue to be in contact with the Canadian authorities to ensure the safety and well being of the Indian community in Canada”, the advisory underlined.
Given the deteriorating security environment in Canada, Indian students in particular are advised to excercise extreme caution and remain vigilant, the foreign office said. Indian national and students from India in Canada have also been advised to compulsarily register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or consulates general of India in Torornto and Vancouver throught their respective websites.
This registration, it added, would enable the High Commission and the consulates to “better connect with Indians in Canada in event of any emergency or untoward incident.”
