Modi Leads BJP In Wishing Lal Krishna Advani On His 93rd Birthday
New Delhi, Nov 8, 2020 || Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation on Sunday to greet veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani on his 93rd birthday.
In a Tweet, PM Modi, who was once a protege of the BJP stalwart, said Advani was a source of inspiration for millions of party workers and that he wished him a long and happy life.
Advani served as the 7th Deputy Prime Minister of India from 2002 to 2004 under Atal Bihari Vajpayee and is one of the co-founders of the BJP. After the ascendancy of Modi, he has been sidelined in the party and sent to the 'Marg Darshak Mandal', a group of veteran party leaders.
Advani also served as Minister of Home Affairs in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government from 1998 to 2004. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the 10th Lok Sabha and 14th Lok Sabha. He was the National Democratic Alliance prime ministerial candidate in the 2009 general elections, which NDA lost to UPA.
Advani bitterly opposed the naming of Modi as the party's PM candidate in 2013. Many other leaders of the BJP both at the centre and states, including ministers and party workers also took to various social media platforms to wish Advani on his birthday.
He began his political career as a volunteer of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour in 2015.
