One Day National Mourning Today On Demise Of Sheikh Of Kuwait
New Delhi, December 17 (TNA) A one day state mourning on Sunday has been announced, as a mark of respect on the passing away of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait passed away on December 16, aged 86.
As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be one day’s state mourning on December 17, 2023 throughout India an official said while adding that during this period the national flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on all buildings where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day.
He ascended to the throne on September 29, 2020, following the passing of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Before becoming the Emir, Sheikh Nawaf held various governmental positions. He served as the Minister of Interior from 1978 to 2003 and was subsequently appointed as the Crown Prince of Kuwait in February 2006.
