Dehradun, Nov 5 (TNA) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a 12-foot statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya at Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The PM first performed a rudrabhishek at the Shivling in Kedarnath temple and then reviewed development works undertaken at the Jyotirlinga.

Later the prime minister also inaugurated the rebuilt samadhi (final resting place) of the eighth-century seer. Shankracharya’s samadhi, which was next to the Kedarnath temple, was damaged in the 2013 floods.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi later said Uttarakhand will receive more tourists in the next 10 years than it did in the last 100 years. He said, "A number of infrastructure works are planned for Uttarakhand including road connectivity to Char Dhams and ropeway near Hemkund Sahib to facilitate devotees."
