New Delhi, March 16 (TNA) Retired bureaucrat Navneet Sehgal was on Saturday named the new chairman of the country’s public broadcaster Prasar Bharati. The 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer retired in July 2023 after a long and eventful career in Uttar Pradesh. He held the post of Additional Chief Secretary (Sports and Youth Affairs) when he superannuated.

He succeeds A Surya Prakash who completed his term in February 2020. Sehgal would chair the country's public broadcaster for three years or till 70 years of age. He will take over later today. Other key posts of Member (HR) and Member (Finance) have also been vacant for a couple of months. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had on Friday chaired a meeting to select the chairman of Prasar Bharati.

The vice president, Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, heads the selection panel. The chairperson of the Press Council of India and a nominee of the President complete the three-member panel. Reportedly, the selection meeting was also attended by Press Council of India chairperson Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (retd) and Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
