SC Issues Notices To Gujarat, Others On Rahul Gandhi’s Plea Against Conviction In ‘Modi Surname’ Defamation Case
New Delhi, July 21 (TNA) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Gujarat Government and others on the plea of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging the Gujarat High Court (HC) order which declined to stay his conviction in the criminal defamation case in which he was sentenced to two years in jail by Surat court over 'Modi surname' remark.
Supreme Court has also issued notice to complainant and Gujarat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi on Rahul Gandhi’s plea and posts the matter for hearing on stay of his conviction on August 4. Gandhi lost his Wayanad Lok Sabha seat after he was convicted by a Gujarat court in the defamation case.
