New Delhi, November 29 (TNA) The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to hear a petition seeking inclusion of CPR training in the school curriculum. The top court said that this is purely a matter of education policy.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said that there are many different things that children should learn, but the court cannot direct the government to include all of them in the curriculum. The bench said, 'They (children) should learn about the environment. Children should learn about brotherhood, the court observed.

Kids should learn about CPR

Children should learn about CPR. We cannot ask the government to include all that is desirable. These are matters on which the government should take a decision.' Referring to the incidents of sudden cardiac arrest after Covid-19, the lawyer appearing for the petitioner, a resident of Ranchi, said that this is a burning issue.

Government should decide the overall curriculum

On this, the bench said, 'Why is this only a burning issue, there are many such issues... You should not interfere in the matter of school curriculum. Children should not smoke, this is an issue of complete acceptance. Therefore, should the Supreme Court issue a writ under Article 32 to include it in the curriculum?

The court is not willing to issue orders in this case

The bench said that it is for the government to decide what the overall curriculum should be. The issue raised in the petition is completely related to the policy area. The top court said that the petitioner will be at liberty to approach the appropriate authorities with suggestions. The court is not inclined to issue orders in this case.
