Two Dead As Fire Breaks Out At Senior Citizen Care Home In New Delhi

New Delhi, January 1 (TNA) In a heart-wrenching incident on the first day of the year, two people were killed in a major fire that broke out at a senior citizen care home in New Delhi's Greater Kailash-2 area in the early hours of Sunday. According to officials, both the victims were dead by the time the fire was doused and six people were safely evacuated from the E Block building.

According to officials, the fire was reported around 5.15 am and four fire engines were immediately deployed to douse the fire. South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Chandan Chowdhary said that two women have died in the incident while 13 people have been rescued out of which one is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a medical facility.

Officials said they received a call at 5.14 am about the fire at the old age home named 'Antara Care for Seniors'. Five fire engines were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused by 6.50 am, the fire department said. Police, which assisted in extinguishing the fire, said that the fire broke out on the third floor of the building. Chaudhary said that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the moment and the investigation of the incident is on.
