Lucknow, August 10 (TNA) The one-month-long CSR activity of popular radio channel 94.3 BIG FM - "Ulta Chhata" during its morning show 'Big Chai' with RJ Puneet and supported by Water Aid India has turned out to be a run away hit with listeners.

Aimed at sensitising people of the depleting groundwater water as most of the rainwater is going to drain or directly go to the river and after then it goes to sea, the ambitious initiative spoke of rain wafter harvesting and how this could lead to improvement in the water table beneath the ground.

Rainwater is collected from a roof-like surface and redirected to a tank, cistern, deep pit, aquifer, or reservoir with percolation so that it seeps down and restores the groundwater.

The radio channel came up with the idea and it asked listeners to open their 'Ulta Chhata' (inverted umbrella) and save rainwater, which meant water harvesting as well as support to this noble cause.

Senior officials, celebrities from different fields came forward and supported the initiative.

These included VK Upadhyay, director of Ground Water department, senior hydrologist RS Sinha, senior IAS Heera Lal, leading city entrepreneur Gaurav Prakash, Farrukh Rahman Khan, regional manager Water Aid India, Shishir who is the program coordinator for Water Aid, Lucknow Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia, DCP Crime Against Women Ruchita Chaudhary, famous comic artist Raju Srivastava and actor Atul Srivastava.
