Lucknow, March 9 (TNA) A city homeopath has written a letter to union health minister Manuskh Mandaviya, seeking accesible screening for kidney ailments at every government medical college, dispensaries, including AYUSH, to contain what she calls is an “epidemic” and one that can be contained and millions of lives saved.

Lubna Kamal wrote the letter on the World Kidney Day, which falls today. She pointed out that Chronic Renal Failure has taken the form of epidemic worldwide and that in India, the majority of patients suffering uncontrolled or poorly managed Blood pressure and Diabetes, land into overt Renal Failure. The third largest majority of cases owe their origin to indiscriminate use of pain killers and other drugs.

She also points out, that only few know that this major killer is largely preventable. At least 70% of cases of Renal Failure can be averted by keeping in check the Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar.

The cost of keeping an eye on the above two parameters is extremely nominal.

Patients falling in high risk group, can be checked for Serum Creatinine and Urinary Albumin which together costs around Rs 100, she said. These low costs tests have very high economical impact in the long run as the only options available to a patient suffering from Renal Failure are Dialysis and Transplant, which cost a fortune.

Instead Renal Failure can be prevented by the four mentioned tests and keeping them in check.

Once the disease has set in, it can still be contained by means diet management and Homeopathic medicines. I therefore humbly request to arrange for this screening in all government medical Colleges".
