Under the provincial medical service cadre, the posts of about six thousand doctors are vacant in comparison to the sanctioned posts for government hospitals. The Health Department believes that private practice is also a major reason for the non-availability of doctors in government service. Due to lack of exemption, doctors do not join government service. In such a situation, there is a preparation to give exemption of private practice to the doctors working in government hospitals.
Departmental sources say that an action plan is being prepared for this. Its two models are being prepared. One model will be of private practice. In this, the doctors who want to do private practice, they will not be given about 20 thousand rupees per month as non-practice allowance.
They will be able to do private practice in the hospital premises in the evening. The income from this will be given to the doctor. In the second model, they would be doctors who would take an allowance and not do private practice. This system is being prepared keeping in view the convenience of the doctors.
