Lucknow, November 14 (TNA) A poor family in Alambagh area of Lucknow is struggling for funds and looking for support for their 18-year-old adopted daughter, who is blind since birth. Garima Chugh, the 18-year-old who was taken to a cremation ground by her father after her mother died as her father wanted to burn her as well was rescued in time and adopted by the childless Naresh and Ranjana Chugh.

“We had no children and when I heard that the one-month-girl is being taken to be consigned to the funeral pyre of her mother by her own biological father, my heart broke and we decided to bring her home as our own” the mother says.

A few weeks later when the child developed pneumonia and it was then we found that she was completely blind, informs the father who is a streetside vendor in the state capital, selling Paan Masala.

But this news did not change anything and the couple decided to keep the child and bring her up as their own. “ What if I had given birth to a blind child…is she a vegetable or some commodity that we throw if its not good…no” the teary-eyed mother recalls.

Garima studies is class Xth now, operates laptop and sings melodiously. “I want to study further and get a job may be in the railways or a bank” she chirps while talking of her career goals. The sad thing however is that her parents are not in a financial position to support her dreams.

“We hardly are able to attend to our daily needs, we cannot think of her higher studies…but we hope help will come and she will make it big some day” the mother muses optimistically.

Luck-Know Startup School, which is working with the street vendors of Lucknow, appeals all sections to come forward to realize her dreams.
