138 ‘Women Exclusive’ Pink Booths In First Phase Of UP Assembly Elections

Lucknow, February 5 (TNA) This time the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh would be special in more than one ways for women voters. This as there will also be 138 Mahila Booths (Pink Booths) in the first phase. Such polling stations where only women employees will be on duty and women will vote.

On the instructions of the Election Commission, the police have completed the preparations for the establishment of women's booths for the first phase of elections. Apart from 59 women inspectors, more than 260 women chief constables and constables will be posted at these booths. Women home guards will also be seen taking charge of the security.

For the first phase of polling, there will be 35 women booths in Aligarh and 25 women booths in Gautam Budh Nagar. Apart from this, there will be 23 women booths in Agra, seven in Bulandshahr, five in Baghpat, 12 in Ghaziabad, 10 in Hapur, five in Mathura, seven in Meerut and six in Muzaffarnagar.

Along with this, three booths are also proposed in Shamli, which are being identified. There is also a plan to deploy two additional women home guards each at all women booths in Ghaziabad. Women inspectors will be posted at all women booths of Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad.

The Election Commission had directed to set up women's booths in all the seven phases of the assembly elections. With this, women can go to these booths and vote without any hesitation. This step will also boost the morale of women. There are more than 15.02 crore voters in the assembly elections, including more than 6.98 crore women voters.
