22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra was killed in the violence that took place on October 13 in Bahraich. A Durga idol procession was being taken out at Maharajganj market, about 40 km from Bahraich, at 6 pm on 13 October. During this, a dispute broke out when some youths asked to stop the DJ. Violence broke out soon and more than 20 rounds of firing took place along with stone pelting and arson. Ram Gopal died in this violence.

More than 50 houses, hospitals and showrooms were later set on fire by an angry mob. The family of the deceased had met UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath two days back. During the meeting, the CM had assured the inconsolable parents of Ram Gopal that “justice would be done”.
