After HC Rap, UP DGP Constitutes SIT To Probe Death Of Girl Student Of Mainpuri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
Lucknow, Sep 17 (TNA) Rattled by the terse observations and directives of the Allahabad High Court over an incident in which a girl student was found hanging in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mainpuri in 2019, the state government has begun course correction, which many see as damage control!
Director General Of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel has constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by ADG Kanpur Bhanu Bhaskar. The SIT will probe the matter expeditiously from the very beginning of the incident.
The SIT has been mandated to complete the probe within one month and submit its detailed report to the top cop thereafter.
On September 16, 2019, a minor girl student was found hanging at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Mainpuri. In this incident, a case has been registered on behalf of the father against five people including a student of the school.
While police initially dismissed the case as suicide, the post-mortem revealed otherwise and the presence of semen stains on the dress of the deceased suggested sexual assault.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice MN Bhandari and Justice AK Ojha, while hearing a PIL filed in this case, on Wednesday expressed strong displeasure over the attitude of the police and said that the DGP should be present in the court on Thursday with full preparation.
