Ahmedabad Sabarmati Express 19168 Derails In Kanpur, No Loss Of Life

Kanpur, August 17 (TNA) The Sabarmati Express (19168) going from Varanasi to Ahmedabad derailed on the holding line ahead of Govindpuri after around 2.30 am on Saturday. There was panic among the passengers after some coaches of the train derailed. Immediately after the incident, top officials of the railway, police and fire department reached the spot and started relief and rescue work.

Given the seriousness of the incident, railway officials immediately started an investigation. Officials said that efforts are being made to restore the train service by repairing the track on a priority basis. Only after a detailed investigation of the incident will it be clear what were the reasons behind the accident.

According to North Central Railway CPRO Shashikant Tripathi, train number 19168 Sabarmati Express (Banaras-Ahmedabad) derailed near Govindpuri station in the Kanpur- Bhimsen section of Kanpur under Jhansi division at 2:30 am.

According to the driver, prima facie a boulder hit the engine due to which the cattle guard of the engine was badly damaged/bent. Passengers are being sent to Kanpur by bus. Senior officers are present at the accident site and control office. The accident relief vehicle has also departed. Helpline numbers have been issued by the railways.
