Akhilesh Yadav Meets Family Of Businessman Killed At The Hands Of Cops, Gives Rs 20 Lakh From Party Fund

Kanpur, Sep 30 (TNA) Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday met the bereaved family of Manish Gupta, the Kanpur-based businessman who allegedly died at a Gorakhpur hotel room after being bashed up by a team of cops who had gone their on round.

Later, talking to reporters, the former UP chief minister said, the family was demanding a CBI probe into the death of the 36-year-old, a demand, he added, was justified. He also demanded that the state government give a financial compensation of Rs two crores to the family. The state has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh so far and has suspended all six policemen accused of brutality.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister Yogi Adityanath also ordered slapping of a case on these errant cops and ordered that they be dismissed from service after the probe is complete.

Yadav however has announced a financial assistance of Rs 20 lakhs to the family from the Samajwadi Party (SP) coffers. Gupta was in Gorakhpur to meet a local friend when the polcie team led by inspector JN Singh barged into their hotel room on pretext of checking their identity and later one of the three friends was killed after alleged beating.

Akhilesh Yadav has said that the administration, police and the state government were equally responsible for the tragic incident.
