Akhilesh Yadav Quits Lok Sabha, To Retain Karhal State Assembly Seat
Lucknow, March 22 (TNA) Contrary to what was being speculated in political circles in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday resigned his Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat and decided to retain the Karhal state assembly seat, which he won with a handsome margin the recently concluded state assembly elections. Soon after his party’s crushing defeat in the polls, it was rumoured that he will continue to harbour national ambitions and would quit from Karhal.
It was also said that he was planning to give the mantle of the leader of opposition to some veteran in the party or possibly uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav, who won from Jaswantnagar.
Political pundits however felt that it would be suicidal if the former chief minister quit the state assembly seat for it would demoralise the newly elected MLA’s and the party which is now out of power since 2017. “Its a very wise decision that will boost the morale of the party workers, supporters and the newly elected lawmakers” a close aide told TNA.
It would now be interesting to see Akhilesh Yadav come face to face with the second term chief minister and his bete noire Yogi Adityanath though both have been firing salvos at each other from outside so far.
