All Eight BJP Rajya Sabha Candidates Win In UP, SP's Jaya Bachchan And Ramji Lal Suman Win
Lucknow, February 27 (TNA) In what was expected, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday pulled off a feat that left the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) fretting and fuming, as it ensured the victory of all its eight Rajya Sabha candidates in the biennial elections held earlier in the day. The victory was accomplished with the support of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) legislators and cross-voting by SP rebel MLAs.
The BJP had forced an election by fielding an eighth candidate for the state's 10 seats. The numbers decreed that seven seats would go to the BJP and three to the Samajwadi Party.
While the victory of seven candidates announced earlier was a done one, the entry of industrialist-turned-politician Sanjay Seth upset the game of Akhilesh Yadav and his party. He not only managed to break the ranks of the opposition but also successfully garnered the votes of Raja Bhaiyya and another of his party MLAs.
