Allahabad HC Quashes Criminal Proceedings Against Salman Khurshid For Offending Comment Against Yogi

Prayagraj, February 15 (TNA) In big relief to veteran Congress leader and former union minister Salman Khurshid, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday quashed a criminal case against him. The Congress leader was accused of making a remark 'Rishte me ham unke Baap Lagte hain' referring to UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

During the electioneering for Lok Sabha Election 2019, while referring to Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Congress leader Salman Khurshid had allegedly said: 'रिश्ते में तो हम तुम्हारे बाप लगते हैं’. The court observed that the petitioner has regretted his offending comment which “means that he still has apetite to learn and be brave in life”.

It further noted that in view of the affidavit submitted by Khurshid and considering overall facts and circumstances of the casem the contexxt in which he uttered the offending sentence, and his regret for the comment, ….the continuation of the impugned proceedings against him would not be justified”.
