Allahabad HC Seeks Response From UP Govt On Petition Seeking Ban On Open Sale Of Acid
Prayagraj, January 10 (TNA) The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday sought response from the state government on a PIL requesting a ban on open sale of acid in Uttar Pradesh. The court asked the state government lawyer to file an affidavit explaining what steps have been taken to stop the open sale of acid in the state.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice MK Gupta and Justice Kshitij Shailendra said in its order that the affidavit should also state how many victims have been compensated in this case and how many cases of acid attacks have been reported in the last five years.
This PIL, filed by Navya Kesarwani and other law students, has requested the court to order a ban on the open sale of acid in Uttar Pradesh. In this PIL, a request has also been made to provide compensation and free treatment to the victims. The court fixed January 23 as the next hearing date in this case.
Not only this, the High Court has also sought details of the incidents of acid attacks that took place in the last five years. The High Court has asked the government what steps have been taken to stop the open sale of acid in the state. The court has also asked how many acid attack victims have been compensated so far?
