Prayagraj, Oct 1 (TNA) In big relief to the 81-year-old former Uttar Pradesh governor Aziz Qureshi, the Allahabad High Court (HC) on Friday stayed his arrest in a treason case filed in Rampur. His is accused of having objectionable words against UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath after he had met jailed Rampur MP, Mohd Azam Khan’s family.

He had called the leader a devil incarnate, after getting emotional on the condition of former UP minister Mohd Azam Khan who is in jail. On September 6, a case was registered at the Civil Lines police station in Rampur after a video of Qureshi saying so went viral on the social media.

Case was registered on the application of a BJP leader Akash Saxena. Challenging the FIR, Aziz Qureshi had filed an application in the Allahabad High Court seeking a stay on arrest and cancellation of the FIR.

The Division Bench of Justice Pritinkar Diwaker and Justice Mohammad Aslam stayed the arrest of Qureshi and has sought a response from the state government within the next four days. The next hearing of the case has been listed for October 6.
