Assistant Commercial Tax Commissioner Arrested By Mumbai Police In Basti

Basti, April 6 (TNA) Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, posted in Basti, Ashutosh Mishra, was arrested by the Criminal Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch on Tuesday in connection with the collection of extortion and robbery from Angadiya traders of Mumbai.

He is said to be the brother-in-law of sacked IPS Saurabh Tripathi of Mumbai Police, wanted in the case.

The Criminal Intelligence Unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch had reached the town three days ago. After collecting complete information, this team reached the commercial tax office along with the Kotwali police during the day on Tuesday.

The CJM granted the transit remand sought by the Criminal Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch till April 8. He will now be produced in Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court No 37 Mumbai. A case has been registered against Saurabh Tripathi, the then DCP Zone-2 of Mumbai in Mumbai's LT Marg police station in the case of extortion from Angadian traders under the section of extortion, robbery etc. This case is of December 2021.
