BJP MLA In UP Offers Free Petrol Dole For Riders On Independence Day, Crowds Cane Charge As They Go Berserk
Kaushambi, August 16 (TNA) At a time when the fuel prices are shooting through the roof, a free dole of petrol on the 75th Independence Day by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator in UP lead to a melee in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, forcing the police to resort to a cane charge.
CAse in point: BJP MLA from Chail assembly constituency Sanjay Gupta took out a 'Tiranga Yatra' (tri-color yatra) on Sunday, August 15 at around 3 pm. In order to ensure good attendance at his event, the ruling party lawmaker had promised every participant biker a free bottle of a litre of petrol. This made it a free for all as large crowds swarmed the venue of the event and what followed was absolutely maddening.
The crowd became so uncontrollable that the police had to use batons at the Kidji School campus of Kokhraj police station area. Many peoplewere spotted running over each other to snatch a bottle of petrol.
Preparations for the tricolor yatra, proposed by BJP MLA Sanjay Gupta had started a month ago. On the occasion of Independence Day, the 40-km long journey started from Kidji College campus at Bharwari town at around 3 o'clock.
Petrol bottles were stocked so that there would be no shortage of crowds on this trip. Yogesh Maurya, eldest son of Deputy CM Keshav Maurya, district president Anita Tripathi along with the entire district unit became part of the yatra. During this, the crowd also violated Covid protocol and rules.
