According to the CBI spokesperson, a case was registered on November 7, 2023 against 10 accused including public servants and contractors of Northern Railway, Lucknow. In fact, the CBI had received information that the officers posted in the Northern Railway office in Hazratganj, along with some contractors, were exchanging bribes in exchange for the works like making changes in the tender, getting the dues paid etc.

At the same time, officials are also taking bribes and paying contractors against the rules. The remaining contractors are being discriminated against in awarding work and payment. CBI received concrete information that Virendra Tomar, owner of Tomar Construction of Jaunpur and his son Prashant Tomar were going to give a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to Deputy Chief Engineer Harish Kumar (IRSE 2006).

On this information, CBI planned to arrest him red-handed and caught him while giving bribe. Subsequently, CBI raided more than half a dozen locations of the accused in Lucknow and Jaunpur and recovered cash and other suspicious documents. CBI will present all three before the court on Thursday.
