Prayagraj, August 24 (TNA) Trouble for mafia don turned politician Mukhtar Ansari, lodged in the Banda Jail, mounted further on Tuesday as the MP MLA Special Court of Prayagraj on Tuesday framed charges against the mafia in a case registered in 1997.

On December 1, 1997, Mahavir Prasad had lodged an FIR at Bhelupur police station in Varanasi, in which it was alleged that Mukhtar Ansari had threatened to kill him over phone at around 5 pm on November 5,1997. At that time Nand Kishore Rungta, brother of Mahavir Prasad, had been kidnapped and an extortion amount of Rs 1.25 crore had been demanded.

Ansari, it was alleged had threatened Prasad not to either plead the case or inform the police. In the FIR it was alleged that Ansari threatened to blow up his entire family if police was involved.

Present virtually for the hearing from the Banda court, the don however has pleaded innocence and not guilty.

The court however dismissed his pleas and said that there was enough evidence for him to stand trial. MP-MLA court judge Alok Kumar Srivastava then ordered that the case be started against Ansari.
