Criminal Appeal of Jailed Dhananjay Singh Seeking Suspension Of Sentence To Be Heard By Allahabad HC Today
Prayagraj, April 24 (TNA) The criminal appeal of jailed former MP Dhananjay Singh will be heard in Allahabad High Court on Wednesday. In the last hearing, Allahabad High Court had recorded the trial court’s order. Singh’s lawyer had demanded a hearing from Allahabad High Court without trial court records.
High Court had rejected the demand and had given time till April 22 to the state government to file objection. Dhananjay Singh has filed a petition in the High Court against the sentence given by the special judge of Jaunpur MP-MLA court. He has also demanded for cancellation of the 7-year sentence and his release on bail. The Jaunpur court had pronounced the sentence on March 6.
Jaunpur MP-MLA Court has sentenced former MP Dhananjay Singh and his associate Santosh Vikram Singh to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each in the case of kidnapping of Namami Gange project manager Abhinav Singhal, extortion demand, intimidation and criminal conspiracy.
On May 10, 2020, a case was registered against former MP Dhananjay Singh and Santosh Vikram under kidnapping, extortion and other sections at Line Bazar police station in Jaunpur. The single bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh of Allahabad High Court is hearing the petition.
