DEIC-COE Observes 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities'

Aligarh, December 30 (TNA) || A 'Parents Support Group Meeting' was organised to mark the 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities'. The programme was slated for raising awareness about the challenges faced by differently-able children and for a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable world at the District Early Intervention Centre and Centre of Excellence (DEIC-COE), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Prof Tabassum Shahab, Honorary Advisor, DEIC-COE said that the meeting aimed to clear various myths and doubts about the medical conditions of differently-able children.

The parents of differently-able children were also urged to spread the message in the society, pointed out Prof Kamran Afzal, Convener, DEIC-COE.

According to Dr Uzma Firdaus, Nodal Officer, DEIC-COE, "the meeting also included a session to provide the parents with a platform for interacting with a paediatrician, clinical psychologist, medical officer and a special educator."

Dr Gulnaz Nadri gave a presentation on success stories of differently-able children, while Dr Firdos Jahan spoke on the psychological aspects of the children. M Naushad highlighted various provisions and government schemes.
