Don-Turned-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Faints In Banda Prison Barrack, Dies Of Cardiac Arrest In Medical Facility

Lucknow, March 28 (TNA) Mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of a massive cardiac arrest late on Thursday, Banda prison officials said. He was 63 and had been behind bars in a string of cases since 2005. He suffered a heart attack in his prison barrack in the evening and collapsed on the floor after which he was rushed to the Rani Durgawati Medical College but all efforts of doctors to save in failed and he passed away.

Two days back too he was rushed to the medical facility after he complained of unease. His lawyer had only recently alleged that his client feared for his life and that he was being given slow poison. An official communique from the state government confirmed his death and said that the convicted prisoner was wheeled into the medical facility at around 8:25 pm in an unconscious state. He had complained of vomiting and nausea.

The statement went on to inform that a team of nine doctors was pressed into service but despite best efforts, they were unable to save the life of Ansari. Cardiac arrest has been attributed as the reason for his death. DG Prisons SN Sabat has been quoted by some media outlets as saying that he was observing Roza and had fainted in the evening. Police across the state have been asked to step up vigilance following the late-night development and security in Banda and many parts of eastern UP has been beefed up.
