Eid ul-Azha To Be Celebrated On June 29, Moon Sighted
Lucknow, June 20 (TNA) The festival of Eid ul-Azha will be celebrated on June 29 across the country including Delhi. The moon could not be seen in Delhi on Monday due to cloudy weather, but the Bakrid moon has been sighted in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, chairman of the Markazi Chand Committee in Lucknow, said on Monday that the moon of the month of Zilhij has been sighted. Bakrid will be celebrated on 29 June.
The Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Dr. Mufti Mukarram Ahmed said that the sighting of the moon of Zul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, has been confirmed in parts of Uttar Pradesh like Azamgarh, Varanasi and Mau. Therefore, the festival of Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on 29 June.
The Islamic calendar has 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon. The beginning of the Islamic month Maah e Zilhijj is significant.
