"Exploring The Riches Of Persian Literature During Shah Jahan's Reign"

Aligarh, September 1 (TNA) The Department of Persia at Aligarh Muslim University recently hosted an international seminar on "Persian Literature Produced during the reign of Shah Jahan". The event brought together scholars from around the world to delve into the cultural and literary achievements of the Mughal era.

Professor Irfan Habib, Professor Emeritus of History at AMU, highlighted the significance of the period, citing the compilation of Dabistan-i-Mazahib, a critical study of various religions, and the translation of 52 Upanishads by Dara Shikoh. He also explored the ideological differences between Shah Jahan and his great-grandfather Akbar.

The Chief Guest, Professor Anwar Khairi from the University of Kabul, spoke about Shah Jahan's contributions to the cultural landscape of Afghanistan, while Professor Rana Khursheed, Chairperson of the Department of Persian, emphasized the Mughal Emperors' patronage of arts, architecture, and literature.

Other speakers, including Professor Azarmi Dukht Safavi and Professor Arif Nazeer, discussed various aspects of Persian language and literature, as well as the portrayal of Emperor Shah Jahan in Sanskrit literary tradition.

The seminar featured delegates from several countries, including Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh, and Tajikistan, and saw the release of a bulletin and two catalogues on archaeology and antiquities.
