Fifth Phase Of UP Assembly Elections Has 27 Per Cent Tainted Candidates, SP Tops The List
Lucknow, February 22 (TNA) The fifth phase of the UP elections has as many as 27 per cent tainted candidates, a report by the Uttar Pradesh Election Watch Association for Democratic Reform has said in a report based on the analysis of the fifth phase of affidavits on Monday.
Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh of Tiloi seat is the top among crorepati candidates. In this phase, 693 candidates are in fray from 61 assembly seats. Out of these, the affidavits of 8 candidates were not analyzed due to lack of clarity.
Talking about the tainted candidates, in this phase as well as in the fourth phase, there are 27 percent tainted candidates. Out of 685, 185 candidates are tainted while 141 have serious cases registered against them.
Tainted among all parties is highest in SP with 42 out of 59 (71%) candidates having criminal cases against them. 25 out of 52 (48 percent) of BJP, 23 out of 61 (38 percent) of BSP, 23 out of 61 (38 percent) of Congress, 4 out of 7 of Apna Dal Sonelal and 10 out of the 52 candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party have shady antecedants.
A candidate has declared a case related to rape (IPC-376) against himself. 8 candidates have declared cases related to murder (IPC-302) and 31 candidates for attempt to murder (IPC-307).
