Former IPS Amitabh Thakur Granted Bail By Allahabad High Court

Lucknow, March 14 (TNA) Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre Amitabh Thakur on Monday was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court (HC). He is accused of conspiring to save a rape accused lawmaker and of exerting pressure on a rape survivor who later committed suicide outside the Supreme Court.

He has been granted bail by High Court Judge Rajiv Singh. A case was registered against Amitabh Thakur at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. The rape victim had accused Amitabh Thakur of conspiring and protecting accused MP Atul Rai. Amitabh Thakur was arrested on August 27 in the case. He had trashed the charges and had accused the state government of political vendetta as he had announced that he will contest against UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
