Four UP Cops Held In Bijnor For Posing As NCB Officials, Seizing A Truck And Holding Driver Hostage For Rs 20 Lakh
Bijnor, January 31 (TNA) Four policemen have been arrested for posing as NCB officers, taking possession of a truck full of cigarettes and demanding Rs 20 lakh while taking the driver hostage. The incident had happened on the Meerut-Pauri National Highway in Bijnor.
The arrested cops include two constables of the UP Police. The driver was held hostage at a constable's residence. The arrested cops informed the senior officials that while a truck had been seized, the cigarettes loaded in it were missing, leading to suspicion of some wrong doing.
It is alleged that Sajid and Guddu, along with these two constables posted in Bijnor, stopped a truck full of cigarettes near the barrage on the Meerut-Pauri National Highway on the morning of January 27. These accused, who came riding in the car, described themselves as officers of NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau).
They asked the driver of the truck Tariq to show papers in the name of investigation. On not showing the paper, the accused took the truck in possession and parked it in a mandi near village Kherki. The driver of the truck took Ishrat with him who was kept hostage at Sonu Yadav's residence.
The owner of the truck was called from the driver's phone itself and Rs 20 lakh was demanded. Threatened to send the driver to jail for not paying the amount. After reaching Bijnor, truck owner Salim lodged a police complaint. Kotwali police has since arrested Sajid, Guddu, Sonu Yadav.
Sonu Yadav is posted as a driver on the PRV of Dial 112 in Bijnor, while constable Lokendra is posted at the barrage post of the city Kotwali.
