HATHRAS || The Hathras police on Wednesday filed an FIR (No 156/2020) under sections 228A IPC and 72 Information Technology Act at police station Chandpa against Twitter and other named Internet sites on the complaint presented by activist Nutan Thakur in the rape and murder case.

Nutan had presented her complaint on September 29 seeking legal action as regards disclosure of the name of rape victim and widespread circulation of her photographs on twitter and other social sites. She had said that many You-tube videos are also revealing her identity in various ways.

She had said section 228A IPC clearly makes disclosure of identity of rape victim a punishable offence, which has been reiterated by Supreme Court in Nipun Saxena vs Union of India. Chandpa Police on Wednesday informed Nutan Thakur that an FIR has been registered on October 6 and a report is being sent to get the actual photos, video and identity of the deceased removed from websites.
