Prayagraj, December 5 (TNA) The Allahabad High Court (HC) has started hearing in the case of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Mosque dispute. The court heard 17 cases related to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute on Monday and directed the Sunni Central Waqf Board to file its reply in all the matters within two weeks.

Allahabad High Court has received the records of 17 cases related to Krishna Janmabhoomi from the Mathura court on Monday. After recording the appearance of the lawyers of the plaintiff and the defendant, Justice Mayank Kumar Jain adjourned the hearing of the case. These cases are likely to be heard after two weeks.

UP Sunni Central Waqf Board's lawyer Puneet Kumar Gupta told the court that these cases have been transferred from Mathura District Court to Allahabad High Court. He said that UP Sunni Central Waqf Board is a party in 16 of these cases, hence replies have to be filed in these cases.

Earlier on November 16, 2023, the court of Justice Mayank Kumar Jain had reserved its order in a case related to the appointment of Advocate Commissioner to survey the Shahi Idgah complex (Krishna Janmabhoomi) in Mathura. According to the Hindu side, Mosque Idgah has reportedly been constructed at the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna.

All the original suits pending in the High Court have sought a declaration that the place where the Shahi Idgah Mosque is situated is the land where Lord Shri Krishna resides. Besides, a demand has also been made to direct the defendants to remove the mosque. The lawsuits also claim that the royal Idgah mosque in Mathura was built under the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and the place is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The mosque was constructed by demolishing the temple.

On May 26, 2023, the High Court had ordered to transfer the cases related to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Mosque dispute from Mathura court to itself. This decision of the High Court was challenged in the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court did not interfere in the matter, as a result of this, the cases were transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
