In The Third Phase Of Lok Sabha Polls, 25 % Candidates Have Criminal Background
Lucknow, May 1 (TNA) In the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, 100 candidates from different political parties are in the fray in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 46 are millionaires. All the candidates of BJP, SP and BSP are Crorepatis, while 25 per cent of the candidates have criminal cases registered against them.
According to the report of Uttar Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a total of 100 candidates are contesting from Agra, Amla, Badaun, Bareilly, Etah, Fatehpur Sikri, Firozabad, Hathras, Mainpuri and Sambhal seats in the third phase of elections.
All the candidates of BJP, nine out of nine of Samajwadi Party and BSP, one out of three of Peace Party, one out of two of Swaraj Bharatiya Nyaya Party and only one candidate of Jan Shakti Ekta Party are crorepatis. Their average wealth is Rs 6.94 crore.
The average assets of 10 BJP candidates is around Rs 11.74 crore. Whereas the average assets of nine candidates of Samajwadi Party is Rs 47.67 crore. The average assets of Bahujan Samaj Party candidates are Rs 9.45 crore.
Election Watch state coordinator Santosh Srivastava said that 25 out of 100 candidates have criminal cases registered against them. Of these, 20 candidates have serious criminal cases registered against them.
Only eight women candidates have contested the third phase of elections. Whereas 28 candidates aged between 25 to 40 years, 54 candidates aged between 41 to 60 years and 18 candidates aged between 61 to 80 years are contesting the elections.
He further informed that four out of 10 candidates of BJP, five out of nine candidates of Samajwadi Party, four out of nine candidates of Bahujan Samaj Party and one out of two candidates of Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party have criminal cases registered against them.
Congress candidate from Fatehpur Sikri, Ramnath Singh Sikarwar, has the maximum number of 17 criminal cases registered against him. Chaudhary Bashir, who is contesting from Firozabad on a BSP ticket, has nine criminal cases registered against him. Pawan, who is contesting elections from Sambhal on the Lok Party ticket at the third position, has three criminal cases registered against him.
Samajwadi Party candidate is the richest
According to the ADR report, Praveen Singh Aron, contesting on the Samajwadi Party ticket from Bareilly, is the richest candidate, his assets are around Rs 182 crore. In second place is the SP candidate from Firozabad, Akshay Yadav, whose assets are worth Rs 136 crore. Dimple Yadav, who is contesting from SP on the Mainpuri seat, is in third position.
He has assets worth Rs 42 crore. Among those who have declared the least assets is Hasnuram Ambedkari, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Agra Lok Sabha seat, his total assets are Rs 12 thousand. In second place is Kailash Kumar, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Etah, whose assets are worth Rs 19 thousand.
Illiterate candidates are also in the fray
Out of 100, two candidates are illiterate, while the educational qualification of 33 candidates is between class 5 to class 12 whereas the educational qualification of 52 candidates is declared as graduation and above.
