Man Of All Seasons SP Singh Baghel To Contest As BJP Candidate Against Akhilesh Yadav
Mainpuri, January 31 (TNA) Union minister and a former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader SP Singh Baghel on Monday filed the nomination papers from Karhal seat in Mainpuri as BJP candidate against former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Baghel is currently MP of Agra.
SP Singh Baghel is a native of Bhatpura in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh and had joined Mulayam Singh Yadav's security in 1989 when he became the chief minister. Mulayam Singh Yadav who fielded him for the first time in 1998 as a Samajwadi Party candidate from Jalesar seat.
SP Singh Baghel won in his very first election. After that he was elected MP twice. In 2010, the BSP sent him to the Rajya Sabha. He was also given the responsibility of National General Secretary.
In 2014, National General Secretary of SP from Firozabad Lok Sabha, he contested ontested against Ram Gopal Yadav's son Akshay Yadav, but lost the election.
After the defeat in 2014, SP Singh Baghel resigned from the Rajya Sabha and joined the BJP, became the national president of BJP Backward Morcha. In the 2017 assembly elections, he became a BJP MLA from Tundla, a reserved seat.
After this he was included in the team of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and held the Livestock, Minor Irrigation and Fisheries Department. In the 2017 Lok Sabha elections, BJP gave him ticket from Agra Lok Sabha constituency from where Baghel registered a landslide victory.
