Media House Raided By Income Tax, Opposition Cries Political Vendetta

1 min read

Lucknow, July 22 (TNA) Office of a Lucknow-based media channel was raided by the Income Tax department in the state capital on Thursday. House of its editor-in-chief Brajesh Mishra and the state head Virendra Singh was also searched by the IT sleuths. This prompted a sharp reaction from the opposition parties of the state who alleged that it was "political vendetta".

The channel has been very vocal against the Modi and Yogi governments' handling of the second wave of Corona and the politicians said that this was clear cut case of the government missing central government agencies to arm twist media houses who were not ready to tow their line. Veteran Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Aradhana Misra 'Mona' condemned the raids.

The Indian Federation of Working Journalists (UPIFWJ) also slammed the IT raids and said this was against the spirit of democracy. The IT department has however not come out with any statement on the rais and searches. A detailed statement is awaited.
