Missing BHU Student Case: Allahabad HC Gives UP Govt More Time To File Progress Report

Prayagraj, December 22 (TNA) The Allahabad High Court has given time to the state government to file the progress report of the investigation in the case of BHU student who went missing in Varanasi about four-and-a-half years ago. The next hearing will be on January 12.

This order has been given by the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Manish Kumar Nigam while hearing the PIL of advocate Saurabh Tiwari. Shiv Kumar Trivedi, a B.Sc student at BHU, had gone missing under suspicious circumstances in February 2020 from Lanka police station, Varanasi.

Hehad come to BHU from Panna, Madhya Pradesh, to study. The investigation of the case was handed over to CBCID. The investigation revealed the fact that the student's body was found in a pond four kilometers away from the police station. This came to light in December 2021.

FIR was lodged against eight policemen

Advocate Saurabh Tiwari, who filed a PIL in this matter in the High Court, said that an FIR has been registered against eight police personnel of Lanka police station, but no progress is being made in the investigation. When the High Court asked the government lawyer about the progress report, he sought time. On this, the Acting Chief Justice said, 'Time has been demanded several times.'
