Morphine Worth Rs 24 Crore Seized In Barabanki, Three Held
Barabanki, Sep 27 (TNA) The Barabanki Police have recovered a huge quantity of morphine which was being taken from Lucknow-Sultanpur Highway. Its price is estimated to be around Rs 24 crores. The seizure was made from two cars on Lucknow Sultanpur Highway in Loniktra police station area. Police have caught three smugglers with about 23.5 kg of morphine, while two fled from the spot.
According to the police, information was received that some smugglers were carrying morphine from Lucknow Sultanpur Highway towards Lucknow. The police swung into action and laid siege near Mangalpur railway crossing. As soon as two cars arrived, the police stopped them. The people sitting inside the car came out and started running away but the police caught three of them while two managed to escape.
Loniktra police station in-charge Ankit Tripathi said that 23 kg 490 grams of morphine has been recovered from the cars. Police have arrested Sunny Verma, a native of Ladai village of Loniktra police station area and currently living in Golf City police station area of Lucknow, Mahendra Singh of Dahila village and Ashok Kumar, a resident of Panihal village of Zaidpur police station area.
These people told the police that the absconding people included Shahbaz and Osama, residents of Tikra Usma village of Zaidpur.
