Nation Bids Tearful Adieu To India’s Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar

Mumbai, February 6 (TNA) The 92-year-old legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died on Sunday morning after a long stay at a medical facility following Covid complications, was cremated with full state honours at Mumbai's Shivaji Park in the evening.

The last rites were attended by PM Modi, Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, his wife, Chagan Bhujbal, Raj Thackeray, Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan amongst others. Lata’s sister Asha, Usha, Meena and brother Hridaynath were also present at the funeral.

Just before the pyre was lit by a frail Hridaynath, the national flag in which the body was draped, was handed over to the family members. A recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, Lata Mangeshkar has left behind a rich treasure of songs in many languuages including Hindi, Bengali and Marathi.

Millions of her fans across the world went into mourning on Sunday morning as the news of her death was broken.
