Varanasi, Nov 26 (TNA) An overcrowded bus capsized in Varanasi on Saturday, setting off panic. The mishap happened in the Ganges infront of the Sheetla Ghat. Boat had 34 passengers on board and all were rescued by people on the banks and by divers. Two however are in critical condition and are being treated at a medical facility.

An official informed that the boat was packed to capacity and in fact had more than it could accomodate. Many did not even had a life jacket on. Eye witness accounts suggest that the boat broke into two halves leading to the mishap.

The boat owner fled the scene soon after the mishap. Most of the occupants of the boat were from South India and had come for pilgrimage.
